Cover art tutorial for fanmixes

After my last mix, eggblue wanted to know how I made the cover art. So here's a little tutorial. Sorry it took me so long to finally do this. Hopefully, some people will find it interesting....

thank you for this tutorial! It's really difficult to find fanmix tutorials for gimp so this was heaven-sent! one question though, I somehow got rid of my list of layers window. I am a total newbie to gimp & can't figure out how to get it back...could you please help?

edit: figured it out! ctrl + l did the trick.

I used this tutorial today to make this icon. I was having trouble with cropping and this helped my greatly. The only thing I didn't manage was the text that I wanted to apply. I've saved this to my memories because i know I'll need to use this again. You did an great job.
