Thank you so much, azriona, for your wonderfully detailed review. I'm glad that my final view of Therri managed to touch you as much as it did me - originally he was just the tough-as-nails Naglon to the end, but as I was wrapping up the other stories, I considered that we should find out what his 'reward' would be for his works. I am not certain, however, that Therri ever loses faith in his society - the only one he has known well, probably. It is a self-fulfilling observation that we never hear from people who choose death over staying in an abusive relationship. He may just be making the best of a bad situation, ensuring that one of his children will be raised by an honest Naglon after Therri's death. Considering that children of the Inner Council will probably have high status, from a genetic point of view this may be the best end for his life. It is just that your genes don't really care how you die; only that you pass them on, first.
Thanks so much for the review! Truth be told, I wrote "Early Days" as a somewhat self-indulgent comfort fic for myself when my life was falling apart a few months back and I was quite surprised to see it nominated (and also relieved I'd gone back and edited a bit right before, heh). I'll be even more surprised if it wins, but a review like this is really a reward in and of itself. Thank you!
