A Piano Shop

This room smells like a shop.
It smells like sawdust
like lacquer
like glue
like paint
like hot machinery and singed wood.
Like the geraniums you’re babysitting.
all red
all soft
all pungent.
All with crackly brown edges
that won’t make
your mother-in-law happy.
