GAME ENTRY 1 // "CALM BEFORE THE STORM" // OCT 22 - 28, 2007

The more things change, the more they stay the same, goes the old saying. In Cougar Ridge, that can't be more true. It's been nearly two years since the disastrous incidents that left the town a bullet riddled mess, but life does move on. However, it moves on in ways that people rarely expect. Many of those who were at the center of the strangeness ( Read more... )

It's cold, maybe unnaturally so, and the sky looks the color of slate. I've seen it snow in October, but this looks like it's going to be one Hell of a storm. The last time I saw weather this ominous was just before the whole Shannon McKenzie thing. I hope this winter proves less eventful ( ... )

Dressed in a simple gray jacket unzipped over an even simpler white shirt, lodged inside the black wheelchair which is designed for prolonged comfort and bedecked with an American flag from the right side of its back and a purple heart pinned under it, I'd just finished another shift at the general store on Cheyenne and 1st, which let me out with enough time to do, well, a few things. The town was small enough, and my pension equally miniscule, that I hadn't gotten the full service gimpmobile before I got here and collected a few checks fron Uncle Sam ( ... )

Looks like the Ridge still likes its holidays. Hallowe'en is still over a week away, but you can tell the town's gearing up for a big party. I wonder if it will bring me any business ( ... )

Another beautiful day! It may not be sunny and dry, but it has a charm all its own.

I greeted my boarders with coffee, grapefruit juice, fried onions, scrambled eggs, and nice, thick slices of fried ham, just like my Louis - rest his soul! - used to like.

After cleaning up the breakfast dishes, I changed the linens, leaving an invitation on each pillow. I always throw a cheerful holiday sobriquet for all of my people!

I confess to being a little lax at the housekeeping today, since I want to spend time on my decorating. Ever since my wonderful time with my dear, departed Esequiel (wasn't that a scandal!) I have prefered Dia de los Muertos celebrations to their more European counterparts. But I dust the row of urns along the mantle, and I put fresh flowers - probably the last of the year! - in every room, and I make sure everything is tidy.

When Lyndon came to put my bins back in the shed, I even gave him an extra two dollars in the spirit of the season!

Another nasty one today. Not a good time to go out but I'm out of cigarettes. I should have picked up some at General Store last night but, of course, it slipped my mind. When I was young I never could understand that. How can old people be so forgetful? Now I'm lucky if I can recall where I put my reading glasses ( ... )
