A Welcome back, Jack message is written on the wall of his coffee house - because what would Jack’s be without a cryptic message scrawled on his wall in blood red?

If honey's what you covet,
You'll find that I love it,
Because I'll guzzle
Up the thing you prize!

The city's going downhill,
So I'll give it a thrill
And I'll take any gift of love

So Adriana told me about someone stealing her bear. A stuffed teddy bear. She has jewelry, she has some nice things in her apartment, but for some reason, they stole the bear. Why would someone steal the bear ( ... )

Deputy Doyle finally gives up on me. Pull out the binder from Lyndon. Pictures are a bit blurry, hard to pick out the runes. Shit. Tempting to suggest that Lyndon take me in there. Certainly not Norse runes, or Ogham. Maybe Chinese ideograms, probably. Do an internet search. Closest I find are Chinese, but nothing seems to match. Don't know if it's the blurriness or if these are the wrong sort of runes. Maybe they won't be found online. Particularly since they actually seem to do something. Even more tempting to ask to go into Room 13 now, but I doubt I'll know any more from seeing them in person. I'm just curious ( ... )

Usually, if Tim showed up with breakfast, I would be grinning ear-to-ear. But all I can do is stare at the blank space on my office wall and think about how much I saved and worked to buy that thing ( ... )

Journal Entry - 11/20

I saw a movie at the Royale this afternoon. It had the Rock and Sarah Michelle Geller in it, as well as some other familiar faces. (I never have been good at remembering actors' names). On my way back through the lobby, the owner--a brusque Asian woman with a burn on her arm--asked me what I thought about it. I shrugged. Anything we can do to improve your experience? I suggested she play more westerns--Clint Eastwood, Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne. I like westerns. Besides, this is the American West, yes? For some reason though, my suggestion seemed to upset her ( ... )

It's been a quiet few days. With Tom and Mr. Rast helping carry the vacuum cleaner up and down the stairs, chores haven't been so easy since I had my Wilfred around. That leaves me plenty of time for baking, and I have a turkey thawing, and much of the little preparation work - tearing up the bread, chopping the celery and onion and slicing the mushrooms - is done.

I've invited my boarders to dinner Thursday afternoon, of course, and I've also let Mr. Hochschild know he's welcome, assuring him there will be no skeletons or mummified indians, and that after cooking all morning I'm not exactly going to be planning on wearing a gown and pearls myself.

I hope Barry will be here. Helena has seemed so very unhappy lately that I worry for her, and he hasn't been around much lately. Such a shame if the happiness they seemed to have recently is gone!
