Appalling publicity stunts

mijven points this out. Well, at least I can feel reassured that we're all still afraid of terrorists. Or something.

I am *so* irritated at the overreaction to this stupid thing.

Well, this is what happens when you give the bomb squad a rare chance to play with all of their expensive toys. They're just happy it wasn't a drill.

Yeah, a drill might have been challenging. I bet the bombs in drills don't have big blinky lights all over them to make them easy to find.

It's all so ridiculous. (Good thing they weren't bombs, because they'd have probably have blown up late last year. :) I assume much of the outrage is because the authorities feel a bit stupid. (I gather there was a billboard with the same cartoon characters on it 2 blocks from police HQ that's been there since Nov.)

The extra-appalling thing is that there were also two fake pipe bombs found yesterday as well, in offices in the New England Medical Center. The guy who planted *those* hasn't been arrested, though. That may have contributed to the police overreaction, but it hasn't gotten nearly as much media attention, as there is no cartoon character involved.

"there is no cartoon character involved."

I think you meant to say "there was no bridge closing involved."

Well, the first half of the media attention had to do with OMG Bombs On Bridges. The second half has been much more about OMG Media Megacorp Fakes Bombs To Scare Poor Hapless Us! I think if they had been real fake bombs (inasmuch as that phrase makes any sense) the city admins would be less hysterically angry by now - it would be more like the traditional bomb scare, which fades when you discover it wasn't real.

Comedy Central is out to get us! Jon Stewart is part of the conspiracy, man! And the dolphins are in on it too!

The dolphin toy is a glass jar containing a black substance, covered with a white substance? A black substance like caviar, and a white substance like foam rubber? A black substance like paint and a white substance like a paper label?

that guy's my neighbour! san_j February 1 2007, 19:26:51 UTC
The guy on the left in the picture ('locked) lives next door to me. Has Fox News asshats all over the street last night.

And who said I live in a sleepy town?
