Worked 15 hours today. Didn't get a lot done. Spent the drive home wondering if I would know when to quit. Then I remembered that my Dad used to work 16 hour days all week and his job was a lot crappier than mine will ever be. And I remembered that everyone in my group is working a half day tomorrow because I authorized us to have a company

"Avast whining" is an excellent phrase. Is that a typical use of "avast"? I'm not sure I've ever heard it used like that.

That is a correct usage of avast. In the submarine force, we used "secure" most often. But, I figured "secure whining" probably wouldn't have a clear meaning to a lot of people.

It was no secret that my Dad hated his job every day until he retired. Compared to him, I have it pretty easy.
