Oh, yeah. Everything is fine. [She's not exactly telling the truth but somehow talking to a stranger might be easier than someone she knows. She wouldn't want to burden her close friends with her problems.] I- just..
You're right, I don't think we have met before. I'm Hikaru Shidou, and you are?
Is that so? I'm glad you're all right. [he was worried since the girl said she can't sleep, but he wouldn't want to ask if the reason was that a private one]
It's nice to meet you, Miss Hikaru. My name is Connell...
[He really shouldn’t… but her voice… she sounded so worried.
Hikaru hadn’t been the only one unable to sleep that night… though Eagle’s reasons were more ‘City’ related than hers were. No matter how much he tried to fight it… the ever-present ticking was driving him to distraction…
It was that annoying noise… the almost psychic hum of the clock… that had kept him awake and paying enough attention to the Network to hear Hikaru’s plea…
Even though they were enemies… how could he not answer? ]
[Feeling a little sheepish, the girl hadn't really expected anyone she knew to reply to this. Instantly, she began to wonder how her voice probably had sounded when she sent the message]
I'm-- fine.
[Something about those words seemed insincere. Perhaps it was the pause between them]
[Technically he was in ‘bed’… or at least the mecha he had been staying in… but he could hardly tell the girl that …
Also… her ‘I’m Fine’ didn’t really work on Eagle… since he often pulled the same trick when he really didn’t want people worrying about him. But, he politely didn’t call her on it. If she wanted to talk about it, she would in her own time. ]
I couldn’t sleep as well.
Maybe that is the next curse… a lack of sleep?
[He was kidding of course… he knew the reason why he couldn’t sleep… Hikaru’s reason was still a complete mystery. But, he was there… even if it was peculiar… to try and comfort an enemy… ]
[For some reason the idea that this may be affecting everyone instead of just herself perked her up a bit. Well, not that she wanted everyone to lose sleep.. but at least she wouldn't be alone?]
Did you have a bad dream too?!
[She blurted that last question out hastily hoping to compare notes. Yes, she might have missed the part about his suggestion being in jest]
[Umi wasn't a light sleeper. When she conked out, she usually did so straight into morning. But there would always be those nights when something kept her awake. Maybe she'd been lying down with her eyes closed pretending to be asleep to see if sleep did find her when the awful hunch something was wrong had assailed her.
Blame it on the fact she'd only just arrived from her nightly training session Underground and was still restless from it. Or on the way the three Knights were so connected. As soon as she'd grabbed her Network device and seen Hikaru's post she knew the Flame Knight was the reason for this uneasy feeling.
Hikaru was troubled. It took Umi a short walk to be knocking on her best friend's door.]
Um. Hikaru? It's Umi! I saw that you couldn't sleep and...
[Hikaru was debating whether or not to make another attempt at sleeping. Honestly, she didn't want to try again in case Nova was still there, waiting for her. If she didn't at least try to sleep, telltale bags may form under her eyes and give the fact that she hadn't slept away.
That could be easily explained away, while having to see Nova again, be trapped in her alternate reality again was not as easy to avoid. It was just a dream. She shouldn't be afraid.
About this point a knocking came from the door]
Who is..?
[Hikaru never finished the question because the other knight was swift to answer it anyway]
Umi?
Of course you can.
[Moving over to the door, she even opened it for her friend]
Action; YAY! :DsoulofoceanJuly 12 2010, 17:00:46 UTC
...Thanks. [Umi smiled at her friend gently. So, still awake. It'd been a while since that post had gone up on the Network, and Umi hated that her best friend had needed to rely on anyone chatting with her through the device before someone she really trusted. Like Fuu or herself. The Wind Knight was likely still asleep. So, Umi was ready to step into her big sister duties.
She stepped into the room too, her footsteps soundless due to her plush house slippers, and looked around a bit sheepishly. In such a cozy room... Was it the fact Hikaru was still to get used to staying here instead of Cephiro or home what was bothering the Flame Knight? It seemed unlikely.]
Are you worried about something? Usually you rest really well, no matter where you are...
Your welcome [She replied returning a faint smile. Walking back over to the bed, she seated herself, and offered the space beside her for Umi to join her. It was nice to see her, but in truth she had no idea how much to say. Nova.. was her problem. Somehow it was just so personal and she wasn't sure why.
All that time, when she'd been having these dreams the other knights weren't. It separated herself from them, it made her somehow different ... and she didn't like it. Nova couldn't really come between herself and the others but, she just didn't want them to worry...]
It's all right Umi. I just couldn't stay asleep. And everyone on the network has been very kind.
