*fast forward three, four weeks later, and Lana is walking through Criminal Affairs, a large stack of documents in her arms. She's about to enter the breakroom when a brilliantly eye-searing teal at her destination enters her vision and causes her to stop midstep.

... then she continues on in anyway, consequences be damned*

*Calisto is standing by the coffee maker, re-applying her make up for the nth time. When Lana enters, she doesn't look up*

*places the documents on the table, in front of an empty seat. Then, she heads over to the counter, procuring an empty mug from the cupboard. She glances--okay, it's pretty much a glare-- at Calisto, then heads over to the coffee maker to pour herself a cup*

*closes her compact and tucks it away*

*takes a minute to mentally chide herself, and to sip from her coffee. She walks back to her seat with the drink*

*Jake breaks the tension as he enters the breakroom all chipper*

Hey chica!

*gives Lana a polite nod of acknowledgment* Afternoon, Detective.

*glances up from her coffee*

...Afternoon, Officer Marshall.

*there's a slight strain to her greeting, though it's otherwise warm, and it's all too clear why. Her eyes flick from the cowboy to the attorney, and then quickly back again*

Hey yourself. You came in the nick of time. I have to go meet with my client right now. But here...

*holds out a Louis L'Amour novel, and makes it a point to say this clearly:*

A little something you forgot at my place last night.

[desperadojake]

Ah! I was wonderin' where it went. *takes the book* Thank you kindly.

[yesterdayskye]

*some sort of balancing scale in her mind tips back and forth, but her features are expressionless, if somewhat cold. She glances down at her file folders, flipping the top one open*

*glances down at her paper documents, turning the page on the topmost one...*

*the last part is said somewhat suggestively, though god only knows what she could be referring to*
