An interesting article, although it does point out that the majority of Irish did not eat corned beef, but mostly ate bacon and sausage. And are surprised that we consider corned beef an Irish food, it being, apparently, a regional food from Cork.
When I was studying history in the 70s we did course work that talked about the fact that the "n" word was preferable to being called a "mick", and about the prejudice against that new wave of immigrants.
Every era has immigrants who are treated poorly, often because they are uneducated or speak differently.
