Though I might be generalising, I found that there is a distinct lack of intellectual curiosity within the mainstreamers. Typical responses include dismissing such things as "cheem" or out of their league, seldom bothering to delve deeper.

If is it of any value/comfort/whatever, I'm also experiencing nostalgia for the "GEP" environment back in high school (I wouldn't call it "pain"). I would definitely prefer it back there, only complaint being the lack of girls. =p

Yeah. Rather annoying and sad.

hey.. just wanted to say that i understand what you mean. there are times when i miss GEP like crazy too- the random moments, the philosophical discussions, and even the discrimination against us in general sometimes.

but at the end of the day, life has to go on. so cheer up, things aren't as bad as they seem! :)

=) Thank you

I am envious of HP people actually, cos there are lots of ex geppers there =P

But still, maybe i should be grateful for the "early" culture shock - no? ^^

Hm. I don't really know what to say. I think I wouldn't mind being back there... a lot less restrictions and far more comfortable, but I also want to ... how do you say... interact with the mainstream people. I mean, not all of them are stupid; there're quite a number of smart ones. By smart I don't mean mugger tyvm. Anyway, for the people that matter to me, we see each other in school quite often, so it's really ok.

Oh and btw... I do like psychology... but philosophy's another matter ^^ For my lit thing ah... I read lots of crap- good books, bad books and "good bad books". Yeah. Don't worry too much... just have fun and you'll be alright =P

"Good bad books" - wasnt that a term coined by ST recently?

Also, just because one wants to interact with mainstreamers doesnt mean that one CAN, or enjoys doing it in the process :P

Same here. Except that I haven't found anybody at all who enjoys venturing into intellectual fields for no reason except interest. More troublingly, that includes most teachers.

Can you still, successfully, divert class discussion for at least half an hour into a side topic that never appears in your syllabus? We could. We did that often - hence the never-completed syllabi. This requires active disputation by a few students, a degree of non-interference by the unenthusiastic, and cooperation by the teacher. Lacking all three here.

re: uk. I'll be back in four months. No worries. Would like to cycle then. Funnily enough, was thinking about that last night.

It's like the 4M graduation thing - I figured the "switched study environment" thing, too, but you phrase it better. A broken laptop adapter is hindering the email though.

p.s. 1337 Furion?!

Ha, so education in the UK really is going downhill?

We can only divert class discussion in physics! Which is surprisingly, the only class where I feel intellectually stimulated (OMGOMG)! Do you know what we're doing for GP now?

1) SENTENCE CONSTRUCTION: HOW TO USE A COLON, DASHES ETC, ETC.
2) GRAMMER: I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT THIS
3) VOCABULARY: AND NOOB VOCAB AT THAT

YAY. Bensing, chen, peng and myself just went cycling yesterday! All the way to the airport from east coast! Haha

YES - 1337 FURION. Also, just as Im getting sick of dota everyone else is getting excited about it >.

well well. the world out there is almost as you see it now, with more mainers than geppers. so an easier way is to get used to it coz it's gonna stick with you for the rest of your life. cheers!
