I'm not too much into rock or metal myself, but there are quite a few bands coming out from China now who are those genres but sometimes you just have to look underground. There's a specific record label called "Dying Art Productions" that say they are "The First Chinese Independent Dark Music Label" - and they quite a few artists on there you might want to try. Others I can think of right now would be Queen Sea Big Shark (后海大鲨鱼), Four Five (肆伍乐队) mayeb the Casino Demons (赌鬼) and Heartless.

As for stronger voices I think quite like A-Lin is Chew Sin Huey (石欣卉) and A-Mei Chang. Also a new HK artist named G.E.M Tang has a really strong voice but she does pop songs.

do you mean a-mei (張惠妹)? she seems to have a strong voice, but does she do rock songs? i've heard of g.e.m tang and i'm waiting for her album release! xD

Yep, its that A-mei. She does a few in her odler albums, alot of her stuff now is ballads. I can't wait for G.E.M to release something new - she's released her single/mini album thing three different times already.

Have you listened to Shin (信) formerly of Shin band? (He went solo and has released two solo albums at this point.) He tends to sing more rock-ish songs and he has strong vocals. Shin band's version of "One Night in 北京" is very well-loved.

If you want the band's debut album, I recently uploaded it here:

Probably the first non-Jay Chinese album I bought.

i already saw someone recommend nicholas tse but i just thought i should second it C: although he does have pop songs, there are quite a lot of rock, especially in his 2005 Release album and his new Last album!

oh and i also recommend Mayday ;D

If you like A-Lin, try some of Dominique Tsai's first album

I'll also assume you're already familiar with Jay Chou, so I'll recommend those connected to him like Will Liu (first album only!) and hopefully, you're already familiar with Nan Quan Mama..? They do not have the strongest voices, but I think their sound might be close to what you're looking for... well, with Nan Quan Mama, it's only a few more alternative/pop-rock influenced tracks, (unfortunately) not all their music is of that style.

Oh and I second the recs for Mayday and A-Mei too

Kary Ng has some rock-influenced tracks on but nothing that compares to the awesomeness of when she was in Ping Pung

thanks for the great recommendations, but i don't think any of them are really what i'm looking for/my taste. dominique tsai has very good music, but i don't really like her voice. ): and will liu does not have the strongest voice. i know who nan quan mama is but the female lead singer has a very high/cutesy voice, and i do listen to them, but i don't think they have the rock type of music.

You might like their first album, "Nan Quan Mama's Summer," better, then. That was before Lara came into the band, and some of their earlier songs were more rockish, like "说你需要我" and "白色裂痕."

In terms of strong female voices, I would say Denise Ho and Jane Zhang.

In terms of rock, even though they're a bit indie, they have no female singers or cute to them, I would say some of the bands who sang ending themes for the second season of the cartoon Qin's Moon. (This is a link to the Qin's Moon mvs: http://qinsmoon.com/CHS/new/down_mtv.html ) There are several bands scattered around pages 1-3. Ignore the first mv--that one's a girl and probably fits in the indie cute.

使命 by 忧乐团 is one of the rockier ones on there. but if you check out the bands elsewhere, they all have other songs...

Dunno if that's what you're looking for, but I thought I'd give you something to try, at least. ;)
