Oh bloody hell! You've already got them

Ahhh, Owen. Looks like he's not finding transition easy (and discovering the extent of your own ignorance is never pleasant) - but at least he gets to fix something. And Ianto must be the poster child for ulcer-inducing lifestyle...

Reading this I can really see the guys coming together as a team, learning to work together, and learning, too, how hard it is to lead. Might be difficult for Jack when he comes back...

Owen is learning a lot of things, especially about himself.

That's exactly how I hope they play it out in the series.

Me too. They all seem pretty good at what they do, they just don't know when to do it. Would love the first few episodes show them coming together as a team. About the third ep major alien threat, they all work together perfectly and then at the end Jack reappears.

Cue rest of series involved with him finding a place in that team.

In some ways Jack would be more fun not as the on-paper leader. More as the technical leader, the go-to guy on what an object is, but not necessarily telling everyone what to do. Trouble is can Owen hack it? If not Owen, then who?

Nice, but I can't see RTD having Jack gone more than one ep. It's not his style.

Owen is a specialist. The job really takes a generalist. Owen's used to looking deep but not wide.

Yikes, this is getting long, isn't it. Not complaining mind :) Think it's not just Tosh who's Ianto's protector. I find Owen's attitude quite realistic - I've seen a lot of hotshots come into companies, attempt to walk all over admin, and then find their life has become unnecessarily complicated...

The Admin Sec is God.

Yes, it is getting long. I find myself folding a few minor plot bunnies into the story, like the rugby tickets.

The scene where Jack is excreting carbon monoxide in the shower is a plot bunny that hit me immediately after I saw that episode. I thought about writing it up as a hurt/comfort fic but I'm just too sqeamish. Sometimes a little knowledge of medicine is a very icky thing.

Well, I didn't know about sweating out alcohol (I've heard it said but didn't know it was something you could actually do, with a hot shower and scrubbing - useful to know and hopefully something I never do have to do)

And probably enough detail really in the medical line(not entirely sure I am visualising exactly *what* sweating out CO is like, but I think I've got a clear *enough* picture...)

Looking forward to the next part...

Thank you! The characters and Jack's pad are based on what they showed and said earlier.

Dh has been bugging me about that line too. How's this read?

"So you think that's what happened? Jack's got a private health-care insurer who called him up to have a talk about the latest bill?"

Just finished the final spell-check. I should be cross-posting it later tonight.

Thanks for your help. I needed to work on it, and you told me how to get it across to everyone. :)

"You remember what they called the Administrative Secretary at uni?"

"Uh yeah, they called them," Owen thought for a moment. "'God.'"Having worked in several university offices, oh believe you me, the Admin secretaries know where the bodies are buried and who really signs the checks. And they are the last person in the entire university system you want mad at you ( ... )

Thank you!

The great thing about the Torchwood characters is that their vices are the flip side of their virtues. The same drive that makes Owen a great investigator also makes him an abrasive cad. He doesn't know how to turn it off.

YES! That's a very good point.

And Ianto's ability to appear calm in almost any situation also makes him able to do things like hide Lisa in the basement for months.

And the same conviction that gives Gwen her moral certainty also makes her a whiny bitch.

That's why I love these guys. They're so well written.

Enjoying this and also lists all the thing we all know (don't know) about Jack. Torhwood would regard the Doctor as a threat that is how they were set-up why they were set up. If you don't understand somtihng it is a threat, that is a natural human reaction however right or wrong.

And there's plenty not to understand about the Doctor.
