Years of working for Vets is going to pay off.

Cats hate strong citrus smells. Soak cotton balls in something like Goo Gone or another heavy duty citrus cleanser...and put them on the surface of your plant's soil. (Don't water over the cotton balls...your plants probably will react badly to that much citrus oil in the soil.) Doc Gillespie kept "Precious" off of his desk with those yellow tree air fresheners...but I think they smell vile...

As for the windowsill...I have a plant stand you're welcome to. The only solution is to move the plants to your bedroom and shut the door. Really...cats HAVE to sun themselves. I think they're vitamin D deficient or something...require UV radiation? I dunno. ;-)

"Really...cats HAVE to sun themselves."

I don't know about any other cat... but Sasha has this California tan she needs to maintain. :)

Yeah, see, I have no problem with her sunning herself. She jumps on the windowsill*, works on that tan, there's plenty of room, no problem. It's just that she needs to _transverse_ the whole window. And she doesn't knock plants over just to knock them over, a la Bucky Katt on "Get Fuzzy". They're just... I dunno... kinda like roadkill ;lpppppppppppzxsss; *(or on the computer table, as we speak :-)) - in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I'll definitely try the orange scent - haven't heard of that, thanks! And sticking the pots to the window. And the double-sticky tape trick. But the plants are staying. We'll see how it goes. :-)

I'd take you up on the renting-Izumi thing, but honestly, one kitten trying to destroy my house is plenty for the time being. :)

Ah, no, not getting rid of her, just venting. See below. Can I just tell you how proud I am of getting at her nails, though?

We've had surprisingly little trouble with Sasha's nails although admittedly we only have two paws to do instead of four.

I have been wanting a second cat forever. My Push-up could use some company and seeing as my cat is like an old grouchy teddy bear a little girlie-cat is just the right kind. I am not prepared for another cat just yet, though. I am assuming Izumi is an indoor cat?

Oooops... crainefish October 12 2006, 04:54:49 UTC
I'm not giving her away. Just bitching. :-) The plants will survive. I'm getting rubber pots next.

She's good natured, but not sure if she fits a 'little girlie-cat' mold. Not a lap cat, not an overly affectionate cat. A bit aloof and 'pay attention to me' cat.

Definitely indoors.

Bring Push-up over for a playdate :-)

I was able to keep plants and cats happy by hanging my plants from ceiling hooks in front of the windows. The plants learned not to grow in directions that were cat-accessible.

Huh. You know, maybe I'll do that for some of them. Thanks!
