Well...I'll suggest the following...wear an old t-shirt. Wear it on and off all week until it smells really, really...well...craine-fishy. Send it to the vet with her. Ask that it be kept in her cage.
Really...it's been done before...your vet WILL NOT think you've gone gonzo.
It foils separation anxiety. You didn't abandon her...cause..*sniff-sniff* you're around here somewhere. And that's what pisses animals off....that sense that you abandoned her to the evil doctors.
And...you'd kill your mother the moment she went into heat...so...yay for the spay!
When I got my kittens spayed, their treatment of me didn't change at all. But of course, they got to stay in the same kennel at the vet for the 24 hours they were there (at my request). I like fuzzy's idea about the T-shirt, that should help
( ... )
I took my girls to the Portage Park vet, out on Irving Park Road. It cost just under a thousand dollars total to get laser surgery on their innards as well as their front claws removed (also laser surgery). I think that also included the ridiculous $45 per cat for the feline leukemia virus. So it's probably less than $400 for just one kitty to be spayed...

Yeah, doing spaying was _never_ in question - unlike my mother's sanity.

Laser surgery is really much more than I can afford. I'll just try to hang out at home with her more during the week.
And thanks. Like I said - spaying was never in question - I just don't expect her to like it.
