Sketchbook drawings

Aug 23, 2010 02:15

Under normal circumstances I'll cut away for my sketches/drawings, but not this time because I spent 20+ hours on this one and I'm damn proud of the result (except for a few parts). 3H and B on heavyweight paper. Don't have the actual source photo, but it was from an Aussie shampoo magazine ad [EDIT: found the photo; it's on the front page of www.Read more... )

The hair really stood out to me on this. It really shows the work that you put into it, resulting in the hair really popping out. Very nice, man!

Pretty fantastic work, man. The hair looks really nice. I haven't drawn anything serious in years, but hair was always tough for me too.

It's all in the eraser. If you have an eraser with really thin, sharp edges, doing hair (at least straight hair like this) isn't actually difficult, just time-consuming.

Nicely done, although the lack of shading seems rather flat. But that might be just be a shitty scanner rather than the drawing.

Yeah, the actual picture does look better. Although, you're right; I tend to be afraid to go too dark with my shadows, and this drawing was no exception. A higher contrast definitely woulda helped.
