i know the feeling. we're at that age now, our friends are slowly leaving our side to have a new life of pampers and "new-parent" parties. it does prompt an odd sadness, i will be an older mother too, if i do have any. its better to be older and be selfish now than resentful of a child that hindered your dreams.
One of the best mothers that I know had her first child when she was over 35.
One of the other best mothers that I know is raising her son alone, and doing an amazing job of it. She knows herself well enough to know that she does not co-habitate well with a man. She is still close with her son's father, and he gets to spend time with him - there are no hard feelings. He's one of the coolest kids ever, and very well-adjusted.
Someday when and if you become a parent, trust your instincts and you will raise an awesome kid. Fuck the "norm."
