crash! {{Hugs}} That's just awful. What about the hardwood floors? Do they have to come out too?

Sadly, no . . .hardwood floors had to be ripped up. they were buckling up all over the place! The only flooring to survive was the ceramic tile in the kitchen and bathrooms. But, I love my hardwood, so I'll be re-laying them.

I'm glad you managed to save the most important things, but how disheartening. I can't imagine how strange it must be to see your home in such a state. I'm thinking of you; and please let us know if you need anything.

Thanks, and you're absolutely right, we did manage to save the most important things. The pictures just don't really do it justice though. Seeing them, it doesn't look that bad. But it is. And more than just the house. It's the fact that it's one house after the next looking just as bad. The neighborhoods are all in shambles. I've got the contractor measuring and ordering sheetrock this week, so I'm hoping that the rebuilding goes smoothly and quickly.

I'm ready to go home!

PS - your picture is so situationally appropriate!

For some reason I thought your house would be wooden (watched too much news footage I guess) so the fact that it's brick I guess was a good thing? How depressing though to have to rip out everything. I can't imagine how awful it must be to see your home totally wrecked like that. The last picture though is just amazing to me. After all that water, and the grass and trees are all flourishing. Nature is a strange but amazing thing I guess. *hugs*

Yeah, that news footage - what little I saw of it - was a bit misleading. It kept showing the same small section of the city. The damage was much more widespread, and hit all socioeconomic areas. Despite what some would say, the storm wasn't racist and didn't just pick out certain races to strike.

And brick was ripped from home and building fronts all over the place, so I was extremely lucky. Actually, I know I am very fortunate. Many homes were completely totaled - mine is very much salvageable.

The green-ness of nature flourished where the flood waters weren't as high. In my nephew's neighborhood, everything is covered in mud from the flood and there's no green to be found. City Park has trees still standing, but they are dead, dead, dead.

It's just all so sad to see. But, I am quite hopeful and really do believe that we will be back to more normal soon. I just have to keep telling myself that.

Thanks for the *hugs* - much needed!

Oh, you poor love - seeing all your stuff piled up outside is just heartbreaking; and I can't think what it must have meant for you. But I am so glad the walls of your house survived, and that you can rebuild the rest. I hope it goes well, and that you and your neighbours manage to return your 'hood to normal.

Love, much, and hugs aplenty

The stuff piled is actually from the gutting of the house - flooring, sheetrock, cabinets, etc. I haven't gone through and determined just what furniture, clothing, and personal stuff can be salvaged yet. It's all still stacked inside the house in piles!

But, despite that, I still feel very lucky that at least I've got a house to return to...so I'm trying not to worry too much about the stuff. Stuff is replaceable.

Thanks for the love and hugs - much needed these days!

I'm so sorry for you honey, but I'm glad that the main exterior structure of your house and the roof is not too badly damaged. I hope that everything begins to get back on track soon and take care of yourself.

Thanks so much - I really think that I will begin to feel a bit better once the reconstruction begins and I can concentrate on the details of paint color and cabinet styles, etc.

Again - loving the hugs and warm thoughts!
