Another Revolting Development

So, I returned home from yet another business trip (Denver this time) and found that the dreaded Hurricane Katrina is projected to hit New Orleans...directly. This is always a disturbing thought. A hurricane is bad enough, but New Orleans is below sea level. Water is more concerning to us than the wind force ( Read more... )

Oh no, Crash! I hope you stay safe and that hurricane by-passes you with minimal damage. And then hurry back - you're missed!

Wow - that was quick.

I've been so busy with work and out-of-town trips that I've been out of touch and didn't think anyone would even notice, so it's doubly nice to see your good wishes and thoughts!

It's supposed to hit on Monday, but because we're so low and there are only a few ways to get out of town (and one million five hundred needing to evacuate) we must start a little early.

I'll be at my brother's - hopefully with some sort of access. Yes, sadly my concerns are not prioritized as they probably should be!

When I heard it was heading to New Orleans, I thought of you.

So how much stuff are you taking with you?

Well, I've just finished moving all of the potential projectile items from the backyard (around the pool) and I'm moving things off of the floor inside...just in case. I haven't even unpacked from my return trip yesterday, so it will take me a bit of time to repack and collect the must-haves....pictures, valuables (not that I have that many) and the like. Then, pack up the car and head out to the grid-lock of the Causeway (that lovely bridge that crosses Lake Ponchartrain).

Sigh.

Not my favorite time of the year (and yes, it lasts for six months).

Keeping my fingers crossed it misses you or fizzles out early...

That just sucks, doesn't it! I'm very worried about New Orleans just sliding off into the Gulf one day. I'm not too much farther from Ponchatoula...so we'll be seeing an influx of people in town.

Stay safe and I'm glad you're getting out early!

Thanks - I think once Contra-Flow has been invoked you will be seeing a slew of traffic headed your way! Hope you fare well also.

I just looked at the weather...it's gonna come right over us too. I'm further inland....but it looks pretty big. We're tying stuff down and preparing to be without power. I hate damn hurricanes! Better print me off some fic real quick...

Check in when you can...and I will too.

Thanks - I've made the short journey across the lake to my brother's and now we're just going to wait and see...but it doesn't look good for the city.

Thanks. I'm high and dry...for now! I'm still hoping it does a loop and heads back out to sea, but I'm not very optimistic about that. Keep your fingers crossed that it fizzles out before it hits land.
