Maybe an example would help clarify things...

example. there's 11 possible judge scores. the sum is. say. 77 for an average of 7.
now lets say you have 2 scoring rewards and would rather use them now. each scoring reward equals a judge score of 10. so now in using them, now your score would be 97 from 13 judges, upping the average to 7.5.
it may be a half a point, or even a quarter. but it could help. i dunno. maybe it could be more beneficial to replace, say, the highest non-scores to 10 instead. I think it drives up the average more the previous way.
but that's a working example of how it works. the overall score is just the sum of your per-challenge scores.
