Hey peoples! As some of you know, I've been working on Haverford's student portal site. It's created and maintained by a group on campus called FIG. Currently our student portal is very functional, but looks rather drab. It was okay for five years, but it's time to enter the 21st century.

The new iteration, which is still in alpha, looks like Read more... )

*gasp*!

On a more serious note, I keep getting this error on the calendar, even though I'm refreshing the page:

Warning: MagpieRSS: Failed to fetch https://www.haverford.edu/calendar/rss/ (HTTP Error: Error: cURL could not retrieve the document, error ) in /var/www/goScripts/magpierss/rss_fetch.inc on line 238 Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /var/www/goScripts/getCalendarFeed.php on line 21

Is that the error you were talking about?

The skins don't seem to be working, either---I'm guessing you haven't implemented that yet?

It definitely looks nicer than before, but it still feels like it's missing some pizzazz. Have you thought about maybe using a light texture or pale color for the background? I also think you could make the header more interesting.

I did some stuff! Better?

Yeah, the calendar feed sometimes fails, and it runs every 2 minutes, so if it fails, it's down for at least that long. I'm pretty much just responsible for all the html, css, and related images.

Ah, the header looks much better.

Right now you have the color between boxes as #E8D8BF (or at least, that's the hex value as it appears on my screen), and the main background is still white. What if you swapped these two? Basically, I still think that it would be good to have some color in the background. It might help to make things look less clumped together in the center.

Well, I can see the calendar perfectly, even when clicking on it.

My suggestion would be to make the site less clumped. Space things out more?

You're right, the search didn't work at all (the one in the top menu), the one on the web page worked (after I clicked on GO!)... I looked you up and you're the quaker oats guy...

The board in the menu area worked, but not the one in the body of the page.

I'm not sure what the announcement stuff is supposed to do, but it's not doing anything for me.

And the customized skin doesn't work either. Is it?

My question is once you click on one of the menu choices (like go! or board, etc) should there be some sort of button that links you back to your webpage? just wondering.

Otherwise, it looks good :)
