I think the Motorola Aura basically sums up my general opinion of the quality of cell phones out there. So much flash and yet so little function (certain smartphones excluded of course.) My current phone has so many features that I can't imagine anyone would take pleasure in using namely ( Read more... )

Way to rant, Ranty McRanterson. Why don't you rant a little more while you're at it?

I'm actually taking an exam right now so I can't. Or rather I shouldn't. It's a no-ranting exam. :(

I think you should rant on your exam. I bet that would be fun and the prof would enjoy it. Ps. You don't rant nearly as often as you should... I'm a little disappointed.

sorry to rant late, but...

the expensive ringtones are a result of the new-media economy.

basically, record companies are FINALLY realizing that we are going to steal music. it's just going to happen. but they can still make money off the poorest of poor, people without consistent internet connections, and thus force them into paying a dollar or more for the right to have that ringtone.

let's not even mention that they purposefully do NOT keep records to avoid having to re-issue ringtones and thus force a new purchase on every cell phone.

it's a major scam, and it is so horrific mainly because it is targeted so blatantly on the people unable to afford an internet connection. truly unbelievable.

it is a patently illegal strategy that should be pursued, but no ajor law firm will risk the far-flung exposure of taking on one of the big 4 record companies.

buy an iphone. they have ten million issues, but they don't support this bullshit.

miss you col

I have an iPhone! Yes, they have a method for paying 99 cents to turn a song you've already bought into a ringtone. Yes, I use a workaround to do it for free for songs I downloaded illegally. That's part of the reason I got it. It's largely controlled by Apple, and while their business model occasionally irks me, they're infinitely better than the wireless carrier companies.

I also read an article only a few days after writing this that shed a little more light on texts. These companies are terrible. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/28/business/28digi.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=text%20message%20cost&st=cse

It was good to hear from you. Nice to know you're still reading. I'm still reading yours.
