I've had that exact dual monitor problem with Ubuntu. It's also other small things that are annoying: there's this weird white noise that comes out of my speakers that doesn't happen when I'm in Vista; the flash plug-in for Firefox randomly stops working, requiring me to restart the browser; the occasionally impenetrable installation procedures.

I haven't had any problems with Vista yet, and I've been using it for around 6 months now. I wouldn't say it sucks. It might be the case that it doesn't particularly improve upon XP---I never used XP, so I don't know---but I have a hard time believing that XP is a significantly better operating system.

There's an article on Slashdot about how Vista's faults were blown out of proportion. So I guess that probably influenced me. Chances are good that I'll never use it on one of my own computers, so it doesn't matter that much to me. I guess I'm not so worried about Windows 7 sucking. I just hope it's downright good because my options are limited.
