I finally heard back from JET: I'm an alternate.

This is good news, but it leaves me in limbo as to what I'll be doing after graduation :/

Just do what I'm doing, get a summer job. If they bump you up, then you could always put in your notice at work and go to Japan!!!

In my case, though, the office I'm working at is only a summer thing, so they'd be closing about the time I'd leave if I get accepted by Amity.

I've already told you congratulations, but let me say it again. Yes, it's only alternate, but as I said before (and they said above), afniel and darbdash were alternates, so you have a good chance of still getting in. poisonedblood's suggestion of getting a summer job is a good one.
