"L'esprit de l'escalier" is a French term for when someone says something to you at a party or wherever, and you don't think of the perfect comeback until much later, when you've already left. Daisical cognitive usurption - a lull in brain activity, lasting between ten and thirty seconds, during which one seriously considers not returning to work from a lunch break. The brain is known to trick the mind into thinking there will be no consequences for such an act.
