[She nods, but that's weird. Are they... expected to stay?]
Meiling. [She pronounces it once, admittedly failing to recognize where on Magvel such a name could possibly be common from.] I'm Marisa. I've never heard of Mayfield. Which country is this?
[ There's a momentary twitch in her smile at that name. But this woman looks - and acts - nothing like the Book Thief, so she moves right on past that reflexive response. ] It's supposed to be the United States of America, sometime in the 1950's. It's kind of hard to confirm, since we can't leave, but that's what I was told!
You must not be from a world like this at all. Just like me! [ A pause. ] Well, I mean, once I was, but that was a really long time ago and--
[ She stops herself, though at least her tangent was related. ] Yep! I know there are a few people here from Gensokyo, but everyone else is pretty much a foreigner to me. [ Then she glances left and right, and motions for the girl to come closer. ]
...Is it magic? [She doesn't like to admit it, but it's starting to sound more and more that she's helpless here.
...
MeiLing is reminding her of Tana more and more... Her hands are idly hanging by her sides - she could grab the knives in a flash if she needed to. She'd have more doubts normally, but given the impossibility of this situation, taking a chance is her best bet right now. Blinking once, she leans forward, looking at the other girl with mild curiosity.]
It might be! That's the only thing I could think of that can steal away our bodies and powers like this place has.
[ Once Marisa is close, she just whispers. ] There are people here who are countries. I met Belarus and Taiwan, and Holland is supposed to come help me garden later!
[ When she stands back upright, hands clasped behind her back, you'd either think she was telling the truth with the way she smiled after that fact.
--or that she was out of her freaking mind. Your call! ]
[She answers with a perfectly straight face. Honestly, she didn't think that Meiling was insane, but there really were no such countries on Magvel. That, and she can't understand why she's being told this to begin with, hence the complete lack of any reaction that might hint towards interest or repulsion. Just... Go on?]
Oh. [ Her expression is blank for but a moment. ] That's okay! [ She leans forward again, onto the fence. ] I'm guessing you're not from Earth, huh? That or you're sheltered. [ Not judging! She knows a couple of people like that. ]
I'm from the country of Jehanna. [...] On the continent of Magvel. Have you heard of either? [That at least should confirm the "different world" thing - as incredulous as the concept was, someone who didn't know the most important continent in her world can't possibly be from there.]
Nope! [ Shaking her head. ] Not even from someone else here -- though that's not saying much since I haven't met a whole lot of people in my time here. I've only been here for about a month and a half.
That's too long. [There's a war ongoing at home... She's not openly frowning, but she looks less neutral.] What happens to our world, while we're here?
Someone MeiLing knew has been here for over a year but she never noticed anything?
She can totally overlook the thinking, though. She lost track of the number of big burly and stupid men whose company she sometimes found herself in, during all these years working as a mercenary. The barbarians always died first, too.]
Well, she's not one to judge anyone as strange, but the weapons do make her pause as she leans against the fence. ] Hi! What can I do for you?

Can you tell me about this town? I've never seen anything like it.
Reply
[ She gestures. ] This is Mayfield. My name's Hong M-- Er, just Meiling works. [ Not everyone does the surname-first bit, after all. ] What's yours?

I'm unfamiliar with this year system, location names, and everything I've seen so far.
[...Applying suspension of disbelief, starting now.]
Can people from different dimensions be taken here?

Our stay here doesn't affect things?
