So one of the fun parts of my job is that I get to play with cool toys. One of those toys is a laser which, in addition to being invisible to the naked eye, would cause permanent blindness in the event of a direct hit. Fun stuff. Anyway, to avoid the whole blindness thing, I have to wear these goggles while I'm working with it:

Kudos to the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology for their recent bitch-slapping of Louisiana in the wake of that state's embarrassing new anti-science education bill.

The ironic thing is that Louisiana, with all its tide pools and coastal estuaries, is one of the best places in the world to study evolutionary biological processes. ( Read more... )

Kudos to this guy for the sentiment, but he's gotta work on his aim. Also, sneakers? Really? C'mon, if you're gonna toss footwear at a dictator, at least make it a clog or a steel-toed boot. Give his people a little hope for the second or so it takes for the shoe to fly through the air.

Left the office early today in an attempt to beat the storm. It didn't work. Took me about an hour to make what is normally a 15 minute trip. Granted, that was mainly due to being stuck behind a plow, but oh well. Better to be behind a plow than in front of it.
