Enchanté. Thank you very much for contacting me, and confirming that, despite my fears, my son is alive.
A meeting would, of course, be perfectly agreeable. I started packing the moment I received your voice message, and am prepared to take this afternoon's flight to San Francisco. It has been a long time since I have visited America.
I understand, about my child... it will be very difficult for him, and I apologize from the bottom of my heart for any inconvenience this might cause. The last thing I want to do is upset my own flesh and blood.
You are his doctor, then? I trust he is in good health?
PLease, call me Kurenai. I hope we can come to know each other.
You're quite welcome, and he is most certainly alive. He was somewhat surprised to hear from you.
I will arrange for a car to meet you at the airport, there is a lovely hotel near the center of town that you will be brought to in order to refresh yourself. We can take things from there.
While I'm sure this will be difficult on both of you I am sure this will also be good for him and for you. Once the shock wears, of course.
He is, and he's become quite the joy to work with. I'm not sure what you know of him, but I am willing to fill you in depending on how things go.
Oh, Kurenai? That is a Japanese name. My mother... Luke's grandmother... was Japanese. Likewise, you may call me Sophie.
Thank you very much for your troubles in making sure that my trip to the States is as hassle-free as I could possibly have hoped for.
The last time I saw him he was five years old. He was the light of my life, even though he had so many difficulties. I wondered if he could ever have a meaningful life, and I became depressed... and that is why I had some trouble. But I have gotten treatment, and I want to make things right. You are a psychologist, I assume? Since you are "working with" Luke and not "treating" him?
It is, my father was Japanese. Thank you Sophie, I appreciate that.
It's the least I can do, considering how hard I'm sure this is for you.
Regardless of his difficulties it just takes a measure of understanding and patience to help ensure that he has just as meaningful and fulfilling a life as anyone else. Yes, I am a psychologist, and when I say 'working with' it's because his treatment is very interactive. He's learning how to become better and more comfortable with interactions, and he has people who are supportive of him around. I am sure once you're here you'll see all that.
