Nixies

So, since posting the last entry, I've done a bit more fairie research. I'm bored. But, I've learned that there is supposedly a type of faeried called a nix or nixie. Yep, I'm a faerie. Where are my wings. A nixie is a water faerie that lures people into her pond and keeps them there or does michevious things to children and pregnant women. ( Read more... )

If you're still interested, Brian Froud published a beautifully illustrated book called "Faeries" that is both fun to look at, and accurate in its folkloric descriptions of the various creatures. And it probably didn't really matter to either Tempest or Midsummer, because Shakespeare didn't really follow traditional "fairie" descriptions--he actually broke them and caused our current Tolkien-esque view of elves, fairies, etc. That was far nerdier than I intended, but hey--I've been studying this stuff all year. :)
