Monlogues
A brief thought:
Has anyone ever considered what an incredibly bad measure of talent a monologue is? Case in point: having worked with people who have absolutely NO talent, yet seem to get hired multiple times. Makes me wonder just HOW amazing their monologues are... -
Out of patience
Okay. I like my job; I really do. But when I find myself up at both midnight and 6am, checking weather reports, and having been foiled in my attempts to get to my job at LEAST once a week this semester, I begin to rethink things. I had my first Equity audition this Saturday. It went quite well. There was only one female part in the show, and actresses outnumbered actors 2-1 at the audition. I made the final three, the only non-Equity actress to do so. But... no dice. Apparently the girl who DID get the part went right before me, and was the one they had wanted even ( Read more... ) -

As I sit here, grading, into the wee hours of the morning, I am once again astounded by several of my students. My intro classes, populated almost exclusively with freshmen, turned out to be the most enjoyable, and showed the most progress, dedication, and bursts of creativity ( Read more... ) -

Generic update, etc.
Life continues to go (relatively) well. Teaching at CMU has been very enjoyable; FAR better than grad school. The students are polite, eager, generally interested in the topics, and pleasant to chat with. I'm being paid *just* enough to scrape by, thanks to the cost of gas for driving to Mt. I taught my first class this afternoon. I think it went fairly well. The Interpretive Reading classes are absolutely overstuffed, though, so that presents a problem. I may have achieved all-time cool professor status though, by trading them their Friday class session for a weekly meeting with me in my office. It was the only way I could think ( Read more... )
