I looked into installing a iPod connection in my truck and its surprisingly expensive ( over $300 for parts and installation). I was thinking about trying one the iTrip FM transmitters. I have an iTrip. It pretty much only works in our car, and only because the radio reception is so shitty that putting the transmitter directly under the radio means that it get better signal than it would otherwise. In cars with good radios it deosn't work at all because there are too many radio stations in the area and it can't find an open channel with enough space on either side that you don't get bleed-through. I'm pretty disappointed.

I've had crap luck with mine -- it's hell trying to find an open channel in the Boston area (YMMV). I needed a new head unit in the Ranger anyway, so I got one with an AUX-IN port. Then I just needed a male-to-male miniplug cable, and I was all set. Wolfie's S-10 has a tape deck, so we bought a cassette adapter and use that to play the iPod. Other than that, all you need is a car charger for the iPod and you're good to go.

We had much more success with the FM transmitter out in the middle of I-80 (Snow Shoe PA) than we do locally in Boston or NYC, where we kept having to change frequencies.

I didn't install a permanent iPod connection, but use a cassette adapter with my iPod. Did your truck come with a cassette player?

Unfortunately no cassette deck in the truck.
