winter riding

Riding a mountain bike in the winter in Alaska is an awesome experience. All the roots, stumps and rocks that you have to work to get over or around are covered in snow. I see NOME sign! That sounds like an adventure-- and you get a shirt. I notice that it is limited to 100 starters-- is that because the trails would be hard to travel with that many folks on the bikes?

How do you keep your nose from falling off when riding in the cold and snow?

You wear a mask. And layer...layering is very important. I'm not sure why it's limited to 100; could be they only want 100 dead a year.

Grant Miller, blogger, describes how people running in marathons will throw up or even crap themselves during a race. Does this ring true when riding a mountain bike in this way?

It's only a hair over 31 miles, which isn't long on a bicycle at all. I've ridden that drunk before. I've not ridden 31 miles under these particular conditions, so I can't answer the poop/puke question. If I decide to do this I'll let you know.
