The other day, talking to my dad about Christmas plans, he said that I shouldn't expect him and his bride to be able to make it this Saturday's Christmas get-together with Milwaukee Daughter at Mom-in-Law's, or in fact any gathering taking place anywhere but their home. It sucks, but it could always be a lot worse. I'm actually quite sure she's going to hang on through the holidays - people usually do, I think, if they can help it. And anyway, I hope for my dad's sake, for his holidays in future years, that she hangs on at least into next year.

It's you and yours I'm thinking of, too. A tough time for you, and you're bearing up well by keeping Pot with you through the holidays.

Oh, and the David Ives line? Yeah. He has this talent for being hilariously funny for several minutes, and then dropping in something absolutely poignant, or sad, or deep, and always wonderfully expressed. He knows language, and he uses it well - mostly in the service of the funny, but occasionally ... other stuff.
