Let's say that you've recently been put in charge of a monthly volunteer rag that provides so-called entertainment for the JET community in Hokkaido. You've acquired the editorship only recently, and to make matters worse, popularity has already gone into a bit of a tailspin due to the publication's rather poor quality and some atrocious errors in ( Read more... )

... but I'm curious.

Are Bam Bam and Steve-O now JETs? Cuz I could've sworn I'd seen that stunt done in a movie that they were in together, along with Johnny Knoxville... what's the name of it ... it's also a word that describes that trio of idiots ... asshole? No, not asshole ...

At the meeting, one of the things the HAJET president boasted was the fact that, out of all the AJET divisions in all of the prefectures in Japan, HAJET was by far the most active by sponsoring the most JET-related events and activities. I remember hearing that very same spiel during the beginning of my first year at Sapporo Orientation and being somewhat proud to be a part of such an exciting organization. Only now do I realize that the only reason why HAJET is so active is because nobody here does their fucking jobs.

JET = Japan Exchange and Teaching

I am currently working for the JET Programme as an "ALT", which means that I'm basically an assistant English teacher. JET is an umbrella term, though, since not all JETs are ALTs - some are SEAs (Sports Exchange Advisors) and some are CIRs (Coordinators of International Relations), although I assure you that you won't find many CIRs and SEAs at such a decadent fuckfest as a HAJET Summer meeting. So usually, when we say JET, we usually mean an ALT - the least qualified out of all the positions.
