"I love you Elena"aowyn77November 22 2011, 16:33:38 UTC
My heart broke when I watched this scene and to see the tear in Damon's eye when he had to compel Elena to forget what he said KILLED me. Your words are right on point with the pain and struggle that is infused in this scene. Beautiful graphics and gifs. Thank you for sharing these.
I honestly think this scene is the sweetest and most attractive Damon has ever been. I always rave about how stripped bare he is in 2x01, but this is that in a good way -- not drunk, not agitated, just determined to voice some truths and get it off his chest. Julie Plec called it a "hero moment" for him and while I still think I don't quite agree with that connotation, I do think it's a moment of great selflessness, even though he feels he's being selfish.
It's like you can see him growing, and it's just so beautiful.
It will be hard for me to ever love Damon more than I loved him when he was sitting on Elena's bed at the end of "The Return" (*makes note to self to make an icon*), but I completely understand what you're saying. It was nice to see him less broken and more determined (without the desperation mixed in during 2x01). He was vulnerable here, but also mature.
It's like you can see him growing, and it's just so beautiful.
When I think about it, this scene is the complete OPPOSITE of the scene from 2x01. It's amazing how well these writers tell a story.
And it's ironic, that in doing in this moment what he bungled back in 2x01, it's this that he makes her forget. He could have made her forget about Jeremy, but no, it's this that he takes away.
Yeah, I believe that would be Damon's self-destructive, somewhat masochistic side flaring up. It's so very Damon that he would want people to forget the good things. Sigh.
