Sam had never seen a unicorn before. This was mostly due to the fact that they didn't exist. So, that he was now walking toward a garden, at a castle, to bury one was something his mind was struggling with. Even though Sam knew better than to assume the Doctor was mistaken, a small part of him hoped he was.
As he approached the gardens, he could make out a big white and red shape laid out along a path. The shape of a horse slowly became visible, stained with blood. Sam glanced around the area, but couldn't see the Doctor. He felt a familiar twinge of nervousness run through his stomach, even though what he knew of the Doctor told him that he was more than capable of taking care of himself. But it was obvious he wasn't in the area. He'd said something about finding a shovel, and Sam hoped that was all that was keeping him.
Sam headed toward the lifeless unicorn, laying prone on the path. Sam stared at it, really not sure what to say. It was a unicorn. He really wanted to reach down and touch it, but he wasn't sure that was entirely appropriate. He glanced back at the others he had been walking with, before kneeling down near it.
"Looks like it was shot twice," Sam said, as he brushed his hand over a small unbloodied part of the horn. Given its violent death, Sam wasn't able to tell the creatures own blood from the blood of the man it had killed, and assumed all of it came from the animal. He didn't notice the sharp fangs in its mouth, either, because he didn't think to look for them.
