The road to the capital

Apr 17, 2006 09:26

The decision has been made to take the remains of the caravan to the capital. A night of rest and the ministrations of the cleric put everyone to full health. A couple of hours in the morning and a casting of shape wood gets the wagon working and loaded. The caravan sets out at noon with the three surviving caravaneers handling the wagons. (Should we also post spells memmed/prayed each day? That might both eliminate any confusion on your part and make us actually remember to do so. Also, this gives the rest of the party an idea of a character's magical capacigy. Regardless, I have create water prayed, thus am utterly useless)

The Redeemed will ride at the head of the group, wearing his breastplate. Crusader will ride with his barding on as well, the donkey attached to the pommel of Osilgard's saddle. His sword is sheathed, but free in its sheath, and the crossbow hangs unloaded from the saddle. If Oulah is still nearby at the head of the caravan, the paladin will attempt to engage the elf in conversation to further the ranger's acquisition of the language.

Are scorpions still a danger, or was that only in the vicinity of the bandit camp?
If scorpions are a possibility, Osilgard will scan the ground ahead of him, otherwise he will focus on the horizon.

Scorpions remain a danger, although there does not seem to be the same concentration here as there was nearer to the ambush site. Your idea for posting prayed/memed spells each day is an excellent one. Also, how far ahead of the wagon are you riding?

I will ride approximately 10-15 feet in front of the lead wagon, so 5 feet behind Oulah's scouting range when he is directly ahead of the party.

Oulah will be out ahead of the first wagon, walking on foot with his bow strung. As the caravan travels the road he will range from side to side, always attempting to be on the highest ground. Oulah will be constantly on the alert, though relaxed, keeping an eye for scorpion or other dangerous animal activity, as well as keeping an eye on the horizon. In response to "The Redeemed's" attempts at conversation, at some of the strangest moments, he will make comments or replies that range from vaguely appropriate to totally nonsensical.
(I will attempt to stay about 20 feet ahead of te lead wagon, ranging from side to side as muc as possible, while keeping pace, The wolf will be doing the same, though checking out different areas, paying particular attention to scent, of course.)

I will accompany the second wagon, exchanging tales of travel with Burt as I watch the horizons. I am, as always, Enduring the Elements, and am shielded by Mage Armor.

I will be walking beside and behind wagon #3, keeping a sharp lookout all around me (including doing regular checks of the terrain behind us, to check for pursuers). Therkahn circles throughout the wagon train, checking the terrain ahead, the terrain we are traveling over, and like myself, the terrain behind us. He pauses briefly at my side at the end of each circuit.

Today I have the following spells prepared:
Create Water, Detect Magic, Flare, Know Direction. Purify Food and Drink, Resistance, Calm Animal, Charm Animal, Hide from Animals, Magic Fang, Speak with Animals, Barkskin, Bull's Strength, Flaming Sphere, Call Lightening, Cure Moderate Wounds, Dominate Animal, Protection from Energy, Flame Strike, and Repel Vermin

(I had Shape Wood, but I've already cast that one to repair the wagon.)

Ana wears her armor and walks in front of the first wagon. Knowing of the dangers of vermin in the area, she bows her head and chants the result of which is a soft almost imperceptible glow emanating from her and casting out a 10 foot radius around her (cast 'repel vermin'). She is near enough that Osilgard is usually within the sphere and is near enough to Luca and the team of animals in the first wagon that they, too, are within the sphere ( ... )

You'll notice that I didn't pray any healing spells. Please correct me if I'm wrong but in the cleric description it appears that I can spontaneously replace any level spell with a healing spell of the same level or lower.

Also, I cast repel vermin on the assumption based on the description of the spell that it would work against scorpions.

Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

(Prayer only lasts for 1 round/level, so 48 seconds. Probably best to save it for just before/during combat)

Thanks for the advice...this isn't at all as easy as mudding...

Josh: Can I take the prayer back for later?
