The road to the capital

Apr 17, 2006 09:26

The decision has been made to take the remains of the caravan to the capital. A night of rest and the ministrations of the cleric put everyone to full health. A couple of hours in the morning and a casting of shape wood gets the wagon working and loaded. The caravan sets out at noon with the three surviving caravaneers handling the wagons. Verealing is with the third wagon, mounted on the warpony. He has his bow resting on his knees and an arrow in one hand along with the reins. He ambles back behind and to the sides of the wagon, occasionally riding closer to Calvin to tell an outlandish story(that supposedly happened), but he is usually scanning the horizon with a smile on his face.

(So, he’s anywhere between 2 to about 15 feet away from the wagon.)

So the party is arranged Thusly:
Oulah,Osilgard,<>,Ana,Wagon#1,,Wagon#2,,Wagon#3,Alythana&Verealing

Luca is in wagon #1, Burt and Zaneak in wagon #2, and Calvin in wagon #3.
Note: the above is how I have you all represented on a tactical grid, with each <> representing one empty space ( ... )

Two clarification questions:
- How are the Lamia arranged on a grid, and how many squares do the occupy (2? 4?)
- Does the dune we are coming around prevent me from seeing what's going on (and if so, I can still take a move action to get to the front, then take a standard action, correct?)

Each Lamia occupies about the same space as a horse (10ft space, 5 ft reach)
The armored lamia is straight out from oulah 60 ft, while the two others are to the right and left of the armored lamia. (Perpendicular to the line of approach)

You may indeed move, and then take a standard action.

Osilgard lets loose the donkey's lead, draws his sword (free action) and shouts, "For Redemption and the Queen!" which is beginning to get a little old.

He initiates a Charge toward the center lamia, intending to strike it and pass by (ride-by attack). (Correct me if I'm wrong that I have 100 feet of movement with a 50-mv laden warhorse on a charge)

In the event he gets to attack the armored lamia:

Longsword: 5 (roll) to hit for a total of 18 (+7 base attack, +4 str, +1 prayer, +1 magic weapon)

I won't insult you with a damage roll.

Oulah will immediatly take a five foot step to te side, allowing "The Redeemed" a direct line toward te Lamia. Immediatly following he will Loose three arrows at the chanting Lamia.
For my first arrow I roll a natural 1, missing.
Arrow 2: (to hit, 13(roll)+10(+1bow+bonus)-2(rapid shot)+1(prayer)) 27 to hit
damage 3(roll)+5(str)+1(bow)+1(prayer)=10 damage
Arrow 3: (to hit, 18+15-2+1=36)
damage 8+5+1+1=15 damage

(if i have any knowledge of these creatures being particularly suseptible to cold iron or silver or whatever I would like to use the appropriate arrow if possible)

Oops, magical beasts are one of my favored enemies (along with abberations) I get +4 against magical beasts. bringing my shots to....
1: zippo
2: 31 to hit, 14 damage
3: 40 to hit, 19 damage

I may well be misunderstanding something, but I believe this is the case.

Oulah's companion wolf will circle up on the dune to the left and slightly foreward, attempting to put itself into position for an opportunistic hamstringing flank attack.
(josh, I have not rolled stats or anything for the wolf, I dont know if you want me to flesh him out, I also dont know what resource I should use to do this)

(What we did for Alythana's wolf is take the base wolf (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/wolf.htm) then add the modifiers from the animal companion rules--at your level, it would be +2 HD, +1 str/dex (with corresponding attack and AC improvements), +2 natural armor, evasion for free, one extra feat, and 4 (I think) skill points.)

The wolf will attempt its free trip ability if and when it does attack.
