The road to the capital

Apr 17, 2006 09:26

The decision has been made to take the remains of the caravan to the capital. A night of rest and the ministrations of the cleric put everyone to full health. A couple of hours in the morning and a casting of shape wood gets the wagon working and loaded. The caravan sets out at noon with the three surviving caravaneers handling the wagons. I send Therkahn towards the front of the caravan, then I begin casting Summon Nature's Ally to call a Dire Wolf to the front of the caravan. When it appears at the begining of my next turn, it will attack the nearest Lamia.

(I am giving up Protection from Energy to cast this spell)

I move forward and out from the second wagon, to a position where I can see the action, but am somewhat back from the front line. After quickly surveying the opponents I will detonate a fireball between the two unarmored Lamia (where the armored Lamia is in the initial setup, but I imagine it will likely not be there by my action.)

28 damage to unarmored Lamia #1
39 damage to unarmored Lamia #2
If the armored Lamia is still there, all the better, with 29 damage to it.

(I find fire to be an excellent diplomatic tool against cruel and evil foes.)

Verealing spurs he mount forward and races up to the first wagon. From there he fires a single shot at the unarmored lamia who did not draw his bow.

(15 rolled + 15 attack bonus + 1 prayer - 4 mounted archery = 27 toHIT)
(1 rolled + 5 shock + 2 feat + 1 prayer = 9 toDAM)

He will spin Crusader about and begin the charge anew, returning toward the armored lamia to make another attack (Reduced to 10 wis I think I still make fairly rational, if characteristically brash, decisions). Osilgard will continue straight toward Ana on a line through the lamia he passed moments before.

Fury emits an impressive contrail of fire as the longsword sweeps down toward its target.

Longsword: 5 (roll) + 15 (+2 charge, +1 prayer, +7 base attack, +4 str, +1 magic weapon) for a total to hit of 20.

(I think I omitted my charge bonus in the previous round, but you may have accounted for it already. Also, with my ride-by attack feat, I'm not supposed to provoke an attack of opportunity. Was the lamia's wis-drain his normal attack, which would have been out of sequence since I wasn't in his touch range by the time his initiative came up, or rather provoked by my charge?)

I accounted for your charge bonus.

The AOO was from one of the guardian lamia (yes, while flat footed. Consider yourself informed.) Ride by only prevents your target from making an AOO for your movement.

Oulah will grimace at the charred spot on his chest, before his face drains of emotion as he blocks the terrible pain. Disregarding his injury he will hop back 5 feet, before he even lands he has an arrow nocked to his bow and is loosing it at the Lamia directy in front of him, two more arrows follow this first one, the bowstring never stops vibrating.
The arrows make a sound like a particularly large wood pecker slamming its beak into a rotting tree.
ARROWS:

(hit: roll 19+14 bonus +1 bow +1 point blank + 1 prayer +4 favored enemy -2 rapid shot= 38 to hit) (dam: roll 4+ 5 str +1 bow +1 prayer +4favored enemy +1point blank=16 damage)

(hit: 18+9+1+1+4-2=31) (dam: 4+5+1+1+4=16)

(hit: 10+14+1+1+4-2=28) (dam: 4+5+1+1+4=16)

(the five foot step should not provoke an attack of opportunity, If firing arrows at this range provides an attack of opportunity to the beast im firing them at, I will most likely still do this action(unless Oulah thinks it would be a bad idea due to his knowledge of Lamia hand to hand abilities?)

I am at 16 HP

According to the chart am I standing beside Oulah?

Oulah...you were fully healed according to the last day's posting. Did you miss that part of the post? How many hit points do you have total?

Just six seconds ago a Lamia shot me with a beam of red-orange light, doing 24 damage to me, taking me from my full 40 hp to 16. ouch. :)

If I am, indeed, standing next to you, my action will be to touch you and heal you. I'll roll when Josh let's me know if this is true and/or if I can move into range to touch you.
