Oh, no! It's that time of year again, isn't it? I saw something about terrible fires in Tasmania, but I didn't realize Oz was in trouble, too. Stay safe all of you!
Bushfires are a way of life in Australia unfortunately. Today around Sydney has extreme risks with 43 degrees and strong winds. You just never know where something will spring up with lightening strikes (or an idiot arsonist).
Here's a good way to see exactly how many fires are burning across part of Australia http://mapvisage.appspot.com/fires/FireMap.html doesn't show Tasmania but it will give you an idea of what is going on.
Wow. I finally managed to look at the map (it wasn't loading for some reason). There are a lot of fires out there - but remarkably, almost all are under control. Clearly, firefighters in Oz know their job! I'm glad you're all fine - stay cool!
Thanks. I don't think it's as hot as forcast - although it will be a few degrees hotter here than the official Sydney temperature. It is unpleasant and isn't supposed to cool down until about midnight, so sleeping will be difficult tonight.
You are a lot closer to bushfires than we are. Unless some stupid idiot lights on, there are none anywhere near us. It's just hot. I've tried ringing a friend with a pool and she isn't answering - probably because she's in the pool. I hope she thinks of me soon!
Oh my! That is certainly a lot of fires. Is that typical or unusually high for a summer season? I feel for you and the warm temperatures, too. Stay cool (and safe).
It's typical for mainland Australia - it's amazing there hasn't been a bush fire close to us this summer. The fires in Tasmania are unusual - their temperatures have been at a record high this last week or so.
