More sea lion love! This pup gambolled in the sand on the way back from playing in the waves. The sand will fall off as he dries off.

You people really liked the sea lions huh. Nope, didn't get to touch them. That definitely was my first instinct though. Fatima reminded us that they are all wild animals that are surprisingly unafraid simply because we leave them alone. That's why we can get so close to them. We did some snorkelling at Post Office Bay, too bad none of us brought an underwater camera. I saw a lovely blue rainbow-finned grouper, a sting ray, a glimpse of some white tip sharks. Also nearly swam into a whole school of yellow fish (unidentified). Was thinking of my dad throughout as he loves fish to death. Eating them, that is. Especially ( Read more... )

Post Office Bay was our first stop on Floreana. It was a whalers' haunt: a collection of weathered barrels and planks on the beach. They'd leave mail in/on the barrels and sift through the ones already there in case there was a letter bound their direction. The same thing happened for the next boat that called. The first thing we had after lunch on board the Angelique was to visit the lava tubes on the mainland. (I'd rejoined the group after calling American Airlines long distance to yell at them for losing my bag. I think I won't mentioned any unhappy happenings regarding this as I've complained about this before.)
