Nicole has just told us that latex gloves do not protect against ethidium bromide and silver nitrate. For those things they wear nitrile gloves in her lab. Sabina found a website of some Wisconsin University, that says that latex protects fine against EtBr, but does not protect against UV light. Wow, that's something that your lab manager should have known! You couldl totally sue!

I know!.. But none of my supervisors knew this, and they all have only used latex gloves for everything we do. The problem is that the info on material safety data sheets is contradicting - some of them just say - wear gloves, and don't specify which kind; some say latex is fine for handling the chemical, but not ok for
UV exposure. But i guess i would rather take the extra precaution rather then keep guessing what's right.
