[ For a while now Freud has been spending his time feeding his interest in drones, now that he's a bit better aquainted with this place. Engaging in conversation with them, asking them personal questions like theres no tomorrow, tripping them if one so happens to walk by (accidentally of course), etc etc. Anything to tip him off that there is ( Read more... )

When I went home they said I was a drone here.

So when we're droned we go home. Here I thought droning was a punishment.

How long were you home, if I can ask?

It is when it is for a short period of time.

Around ten years.

I suppose.

I hadn't thought this place would've been around that long. Didn't your drone age? And you?

Actually, I did a study on this a while back!

Oh, good. That makes things easier.

Can you possibly help explain the actual process of droning, then? That's the part I'm most interested in.

Is it an over night thing or does it happen in an instance, for example.

Usually it happens in response to someone doing something that's against the town's rules or expected social behaviors. When it happens like that, Officer Grady or the Mayor tends to be the one who does it to people. Nobody really knows how, though. Those sorts of dronings usually only last a few hours, or a day at most.

The other kind is kind of random. People will be droned for what seems like no reason at all, and Grady and the Mayor aren't involved when it happens like that. When people get droned like that, there's no telling how long it'll last. Sometimes it's only a few days, sometimes it's months, and sometimes they just stay that way.

Also, when people are droned for a really long time, sometimes they'll be replaced by a new arrival and disappear from town completely. Or they'll be replaced by a normal generic sort of drone when they show back up in a different house - that's what happened with you, by the way. You were here before as my brother, but now you're in a different house and there's a drone here instead ( ... )

From the way that you're describing it, it sounds like the town is giving people time outs. But this is very helpful.

I'd thought the sorting of droning was messy but the way you've describe it does clear up some things. If only there were ways to be for certain.

Those two you mentioned earlier, Officer Grady and the Mayor. They're not the only thing keeping this city in check, right?

I've come here and gone about...three times, if I remember right. I only know because people have told me. I don't remember being here, being brainwashed, or leaving.

...It's scary when I think about it.

It is.

So you weren't still there while you were droned? [a sigh] That's a bit disappointing.

Thank you for the information.

I think I was around for a little while, but then I disappeared. Or...went back home or whatever happens.

It's all second-hand information, sorry.

I've heard the same on me, so I understand.

At least it's something that might lead to figuring out this strange system.

I've been droned twice, and both for a short time, but I remember everything that happened. I-I wish I didn't. [sigh]

Some people do go home and come back, or get droned and never do... I can only hope for their sakes that they went home.

You remember being here before being droned? Then, may I ask, do you remember if it was an over-night sort of thing?

Likewise. Being droned would look like the only way home if it didn't seem so unpleasant.

Ah, well... the first time I woke up that way from skipping my job and school. I was droned long enough to get the paper route done and get me to my first class when I snapped out of it. Th-the second time, I... I don't know why it happened. B-but it happened to myself and two of my housemates, all droned one morning, and we were like that for about three days. I-I can't fathom what we did to deserve it, so I chalk it up to the town randomly picking us.

Just long enough to get you to do what you're told. [chuckle chuckle chuckle]

Were you aware you were about to be droned that first time? Anyone hold you down, anything?

The people I've known who got droned usually say that they don't remember what they did. It's like their mind shuts off.

It seems like that way when it comes to the shorter ones. There's no possible way I can think of for Mayfield to be able to do it, but they apparently can.

I thought that I heard someone suggesting that these weren't our real bodies - that our souls only had been taken here, or something. Maybe they can do something to...stop our souls.

That is an interesting idea. It wouldn't make sense to be able to go home for awhile while still being able to be droned here.

How they'd be able to do it, though..
