Kids and Crohn's/Colitis

I hope this post doesn't offend anyone. I think it might, and that may be why I've not seen this discussed since I've been part of this community (a few years), but is something I'm really curious to find out other people's perspectives, especially those who've gone through it ( Read more... )

I've not been on in a while, and just saw this, but I thought I would point you back to this thread from a few years ago: http://curecrohns.livejournal.com/716234.html . It pulls from the medical literature available at the time.

You and I had a bit of dialogue about the numbers in the comments, where this fact emerged from one of the papers I looked at:

"For males with CD, daughters had an 8.6% chance and sons have a 4.3% chance of developing it."

I am in sort of the same boat myself; wife wants kids, I want to make her happy but have my doubts. But 8.6% is a trivial risk. I figure there's a 20% of *something* being wrong with any kid of mine, Crohn's or not. And if the kid develops it, I will feel a little bad, but will also know that it's my job to make sure the kid thrives nonetheless -- which would also be true if the kids doesn't have Crohn's, incidentally.
