Travelling - a bit more adventurous than expected! With guest appearance by the octopus!

We are on our hols! We left home about 7.45 to go down to The Sea Terminal for the boat. We were on the new ferry - Manxman for the first time - it was a very comfortable crossing.

My favourite moment of the crossing came about an hour into the 3.5hr sailing, and was The Best Public Service Announcement Ever. " Will the owner of the red ( Read more... )

Oh my, that sounds quite adventurious! Glad to hear you got a good and comfortable solution to the itinerary derailment (pun intended ^^). And I fully agree about that public announcement - how cute is that?
How long is the crossing from Man to England, by the way?

We are both recovering from summer colds, and were just so relieved to finally get into the hotel in York and flop out for a while!

The boat trip is about 4 hours allowing for getting on and off. It used to be slightly shorter but the route now has to avoid windfarms on the English coast.

You'd have been about an hour away from York at Skipton so it was a very wise choice getting that taxi. Expensive but as you say, absolutely worth it. I hear it's raining a good bit now in the UK and hope it clears for your stay in York.
Enjoy your suite! That's lovely.

It was just such a relief to arrive and flop out for a while! I was very glad that the very heavy rain only began after we arrived in the hotel - another reason to be grateful for the taxi. We looked out the window and it was literally bouncing off the pavement it was so heavy.

It has been a wet summer so far - no worries about drought this year, I think.

We have a lovely view of the Minster out the window.

Enjoy your holiday. Train delays are such a nuisance but I think you definitely made the right choice to take a taxi. Can you claim some of the train ticket money back with the delay/repay scheme? We did this when we were delayed coming back from a few days away a couple of weeks ago and got half the cost of our train tickets back.

Glad the octopus got its owner back :)

Oh - thank you - I hadn't thought about that. I might wait until I am home as our tickets were Steam Packet ones that cover Douglas to York, so I will pop in and ask them.

It was good to see the octopus reunited with its small person :)
