Yes, please, post pictures about your get-together with D-d. The Germans call such things Adventskaffeetrinken because... well, because they come together during Advent, drink coffee and eat biscuits, while listening to Christmas music (or singing) and lighting the candle(s) on the Advent wreath. It's such a lovely tradtion, too bad that it's slowly vanishing, like many old customs. We did it with Mum today, too.

We light the candles on the Advent wreath at church, so we don't have one at home. But they had put their tree up last night, so when I picked NYK2 up for church the house smelled lovely.

We spent the afternoon here, in our kitchen as it had a good table to work on - and had a lovely afternoon. We really should have put Christmas music on as well, but it didn't occur to us!

The island is battered by storms like that one two or three times each winter - mainly people are fairly sensible :)

And it was a nice afternoon - we have stars and wreaths to show for it for both homes :)

Darragh really hit South Wales - my Zoom Welsh class shared a lot of photos of damage local to them. Utterly ofnadwy! Glad you stayed safe.

It was a very big storm. We had some scary photos on the local groups, too. It did a good bit of structural damage, but we were fortunate to have no associated flooding anywhere and, even more fortunately, no-body was hurt.

ETA - just read the update on the local news - there were 96mph winds recorded up on Snaefell, over 200 trees down, but most roads are clear now, although up in the north one bus route is still blocked and so what is usually a circular route is now a linear one to the edge of the first village and back, but otherwise we are back to normal. Here's hoping for both here and Wales it will turn out to be the worst storm of the season.

That sounds like a wonderful afternoon. I'm glad the island didn't get too badly damaged. Here we had a bit of flooding on roads, a few downed trees and the top gable end of a house came down. In the grand scheme of things that's pretty light.

We had a lovely afternoon.

Sounds like a similar level of damage to us. The local news says at least 200 trees came down - there may have been more on private land that were not included in the count.

Whew, I'm glad that storm didn't bring damage to your immediate area.

The island got off reasonably lightly, although it was the worst storm for a few years.
