Storm Éowyn. Clinging to our rock like limpets...

The worst of the storm is over now. The wind first woke me around 4am, and was so noisy when I woke at 7am that it was easier to just get up ( Read more... )

Woooo, those are high and dangerous winds. It's good to hear that you and your family came through it okay.

Everything was rattling for a while there!

Oddly, not long after I started my LJ we had a big storm that was almost as bad - 20 years ago within a matter of a week or two.

Thank goodness you came through it ok. We were just south of all the interesting weather, so not much rain and normal levels of high wind.

It was very noisy for a while - I wasn't 100% sure our conservatory roof was going to stay on!

But it's calm now and it looks as if things will get back to normal tomorrow - although I would guess both Tescos and the Co-op might have a few empty shelves.

Glad to hear it’s been bearable - I hope the people without power get that back up again soon!

As far as I can tell the power is on for almost everyone now - and they also had to deal with a major, storm-related, water-main burst in one of the northern villages. Fortunately it seems there was no overlap between those without power and those without water :)

Well, Éowyn was a shieldmaiden who did what no men could do, so the storm was properly named. :)

I'm glad to hear that you are safe and hope that the worst is now over. Fingers crossed that Galadriel and Sauron won't make an appearance.

It was one of our worst for a few years - but nobody was badly injured so we've survived pretty well.

Glad you came through it OK. Naming a storm Eowyn was asking for something out of the ordinary though it barely touched us here in south east England. Hope things are back to normal soon.

There are still some roads closed and a network problem with one of the two telecom providers in parts of the island, but we expect to be at about 80% of normal by tomorrow lunchtime.

I made sure we wouldn't need to do any shopping until Monday, because with the shops shut for over 24 hours, and no boats since Thursday, there'll be queues tomorrow!
