strange things learned on this trip so far:
  • when i was in pre-k or kindergarten, i got in trouble during a "everyone has ten fingers and toes" lesson by insisting (correctly) that my grandfather didn't.
  • one of my brothers (the one who is jewish, the one where my parents had a say in the matter) is uncircumcised

i never have been to morning minyan at adas, only shabbat. so i don't really know who's there on weekdays. if you go on shabbat, go to the traditional service (which is equivalent to TBS's egal) rather than the main sanctuary service. adas being huge, even though their traditional minyan is much smaller than the main its still quite substantial. the service is fine, i never really made it in with the people. of course, i'm partial to DCM myself.

that said, TBS is an exceptional place. i've never seen anything like it. the adas experience is unfortunate but not unusal.

sorry i'm not there to help. but, if you have dc-related davening questions, you know who to ask!

yeah, i only went to adas because it had the latest time for davvyning and were between my parents' house and the hospital.
i wasn't surprised, but it was still annoying.

I don't we ever had an "everyone has 10 fingers and 10 toes lesson" in my kindergarten, since there was obvious evidence to the contrary. I suppose you could have the "everyone but sen_ichi_rei has 10 fingers" lesson... Though we did learn the thing where you use your hands to multiply things by 9, which of course didn't work for me. (Going from left to right, put down whatever finger you're multiplying by 9, then count the fingers to the left of the finger down as the tens place and the fingers to the right in the ones place. e.g. 9 times 3 [asterisks are fingers that are up, percent sign is the finger down]: **%*******, or 27.) Luckily, I had a brain, which is good at numbers. And magical synaesthete powers that I didn't even know I had.

And for me it probably would work in base 8...
