IC INFORMATION
Character Name; Rokujo Miharu
Series/Fandom; Nabari no Ou

Appearance; Miharu is a fairly small boy, standing at about five -feet-two-inches; he’s skinny almost to the point where he could be considered anorexic (since he rarely eats) and has a rather significant lack of muscles, giving the appearance that he’s not only a slightly meaty skeleton, but also that a strong wind could knock him over if he wasn’t careful. His eyes are a bright emerald green, and his hair is dark, a deep shade of brown in the light and black without it, giving no indication that he styles it in any way, but his bangs are long and there always seems to be a large lock of hair between his eyes that doesn’t seem to bother him or actually get in his eyes.

He has little to no fashion sense and tends to wear whatever he can find, usually sweatshirts and knee-length pants, though he’s also been known to wear something that looks oddly reminiscent of a school uniform, complete with sweater vest, knee-length socks and shorts, even though it isn’t the uniform for his school. He also has a few scars; one on the palm of his left hand from a rather violent incident, and three five-inch long scars on his chest from the very first time that the maze appeared, courtesy of the heartless. Nasty little buggers have sharp claws.

Personality; Miharu is someone who leads a life that has been greatly influenced by the events of his past, one that left a deep scar in his psyche that still remains today. Even if he cannot remember the events themselves, in order to protect himself, he completely shut down his emotions, and has lived the life of an indifferent and uncaring young boy since then, continuing to this day.

What most people don’t understand is that the entire thing is a front-though I’m sure he would probably like to be completely indifferent to the world around him-and that Miharu is actually a very caring person, deep down beneath his mask of indifference. Very few people have caught on to the fact that the boy-- despite being somewhat of a jerk at times-- really does care, except perhaps for Yoite, who seems to have figured it out pretty early on. The barriers that he has put up are thick and strong, but they’re a double-edged blade; while he does not get close to people, he also doesn’t let anyone else get close to him, avoiding most serious questions or anything that seems to have any degree of success with breaking down those walls. But at the same time, he seems to want people to push at the walls he’s built, because he won’t just come out and say whether or not something is wrong. Whether or not he’ll actually open up, even if someone tries to get him to let them in, is another case entirely. Hence, where his Demonic Shouta bit-which is basically him acting extremely cute to escape situations-comes in.

One of the greatest inner conflicts Miharu has to deal with (because even if he avoids conflicts with others, he still has his own) is one that he will probably never mention to anyone, except maybe the one person connected to it. At the very beginning of the series, Miharu made a promise with Yoite that he would learn to control the Shinrabanshou in order to grant his wish, to never have existed, as a result of…well, emotional blackmail that showed that Miharu really did care for his friends, as much as he acted otherwise. At the time, Yoite wasn’t someone Miharu knew, and wasn’t someone he even had a liking for, but as the time has gone by, Miharu has slowly come to realize that Yoite has become one of his most important people, and the decision of Yoite’s very existence has been placed in upon his shoulders, something that he doesn’t shy away from so much. In fact, because he truly does care, he has changed his plans to save Yoite’s life, instead of simply erasing it.

As stated above, Miharu is what most people consider to be a bit of a demon; he has no qualms about using his cute looks to get what he wants in any sort of situation-he’s been seen doing so multiple times throughout the series: to help win a basketball game, to distract his enemies, even to win a store owner over into letting him have a discount on shoes that he wanted-and especially seems to enjoy torturing Thobari Kumohira, one of his teachers, as well as his overprotective big brother, whenever he gets the chance to do so.

Really, Miharu may not be the nicest kid around, or the easiest to put up with it (the truth is, really, quite far from it), and he’s…actually pretty okay with this. Well, on the surface, of course, because beneath that cutely evil exterior, Miharu just wants to be friends. Not, of course, that he would ever admit it. Go figure.

Abilities/Strengths; He’s a ninja, so the typical kunai-out-of-nowhere skill pretty much applies for him, as with just about any other ninja out there. He can also teleport, (though not very far distance-wise, it seems) summon a giant shuriken, has somewhat basic hand-to-hand combat skills… Nothing particularly fantastic in the ninja-ing area just yet. But then we have the Shinrabanshou, and that pretty much makes up for his current lack of skills. The Shinrabanshou, for lack of a better way to put it, is basically an evil loli in his head that grants peoples wishes, has a near-limitless supply of power, and can do just about anything the owner wants. The evil loli is also a bit of a bitch, and she will absolutely not let Miharu die. Stabbed in the gut? Yeah, no, he’ll survive that.
Weaknesses; The aforementioned loli seems to do what she wants when it comes to actual use of the Shinrabanshou’s powers, which tends to result in everyone in the general area having to deal with the effects of her power. Miharu has only used the Shinrabanshou twice of his own accord, and the second time around it seems as though it put him in a comatose state for a month or so; he’s too young to be able to handle the ‘wisdom’ of the Shinrabanshou entirely just yet. Even though Miharu has some special ninja skills, he still isn’t much good in battle, and often ends up in need of protection.

History; Miharu’s childhood is a relatively short and not-mentioned-often part of the overall story. To put it rather simply, in the beginning, boy is happy. Boy is a good kid. Turns out that boy has crazy special powers (the Shinrabanshou, as mentioned earlier) that pretty much belong to one person at a time. And then boy’s family goes kinda psycho on him and begs him to grant their wishes. Boy’s older brother kills them all and gets him the hell out of there. While attempting to run away from the BLOOD AND CARNAGE that was once his family, boy kills a group of people with the power of the evil loli in his head that he isn’t actually aware exists. Aaaaand then boy forgets the whole thing and moves on with his life as though nothing ever happened. Despite the fact that Miharu can’t actually remember any of this later on, he seems to basically shut down emotionally from then on out, and constantly has an indifferent and uncaring front in place.

As the series starts off, Miharu (currently fourteen-years-old) seems to be living with his grandmother, who owns an Okonomiyaki restaurant (he picked up cooking from her, and is frequently seen working in the shop; whether or not he is actually paid for this is never mentioned), and he attends Banten Junior High School. He leads a relatively normal life, with no knowledge about the Shinrabanshou, until Aizawa Kouichi, one of his classmates, asks him to join the Nindo Club that recently opened in the school. Soon after, Miharu’s teacher, Kumohira-sensei, joins Kouichi in his efforts to get Miharu to join them, because Miharu is just kind of ignoring them both at that point. However, their motive isn’t just to get him to become the third member in their happy little club: they know about his powers, and are unwilling to let those who would be considered enemies get hold of that. But then more ninja show up in an attempt to capture him for Kairoushuu, the main antagonist ninja clan, so that they can gain use of his powers, just like in his childhood.

From then on out, Miharu is thrust into the world of Nabari, where ninjas still exist, even in the current day and age. Before he knows it, a member of the Kairoushuu by the name of Yoite is blackmailing Miharu with his friends’ lives, saying that if he doesn’t help him grant his wish (to change the past so he’d never been born) by using the Shinrabanshou’s power, that he will kill all of them. Despite his indifferent front, Miharu does actually care about said friends, so he naturally agrees to help Yoite in making his wish come true; in return, Yoite promises to help Miharu become the “Ruler of Nabari” until his wish has been granted. At first, the only reason he helps Yoite is to keep his friends out of danger, but as time goes by, it becomes a desire to help Yoite, even though granting his wish would devastate him. In the end, Miharu ends up leaving his friends entirely and joining the Kairoushuu for the time being in order to help them find a series of forbidden scrolls-known as Kinjutsusho-which are supposed to give some information on the Shinrabanshou, and how it might be controlled. The journey takes them to the school of Kouga, where the students and faculty decide it’s ok to kill their guests while they’re asleep. It turns out to be a rather unpleasant experience, to say the least, and one that almost kills Yoite. He is near-fatally injured by one of the students in the school, and Miharu, desperate and frantic, falls under the influence of the Shinrabanshou; while he does manage to save Yoite by healing most of his wounds with this power, it isn’t something he can control, and it puts everyone else around him-friend or foe alike-in great danger.

Miharu and Yoite discover not long after this that the Kairoushuu’s plans have seemingly changed, and that they even intend to separate the two of them, so they both escape from Kairoushuu and begin a journey to Banten, where this story had begun, in order to find one of the Kinjutsusho.

They spent a few days on the run, and during that time, Miharu and Yoite grew much closer. They were on the run, they were hiding from everyone, and yet... throughout the entire series, they seemed to have been happiest during that time. They were both smiling together, and laughing together. Yoite was dying. But they were happy.

I’m sure that Miharu would have given the world to have stayed on that train with Yoite forever if he could have.

When Miharu and Yoite arrived in Banten, Yoite could barely walk on his own anymore he was so weak, and Miharu had to help him. It was obvious that he didn’t have much time. Together, the two boys made their way to the house of Thobari Kumohira in the hopes of finding some hint to where the kinjutusho might be. However, they are discovered rather quickly by Thobari’s lover, Hanabusa-san. She immediately welcomes both the boys back to her home, stating that ‘anyone who drinks tea in my home is a special person’, and they stay the night there. However, Yoite has a nightmare and starts yelling in his sleeping, saying that he won’t do anything bad or bother anyone. In an attempt to make him feel better, Hanabusa brings him a hot drink and gives it to him, and Yoite begins trembling, calling out for Yukimi, the only person that has ever truly treated him like family. Eventually, he starts saying to Hanabusa and Miharu that they shouldn’t call Yukimi and that it would be better for him if he’d never existed, and that he can’t give him anything in return. That he was only clinging to Miharu. Hanabusa immediately tells him that people stay with him because they like him, and that they don’t want anything in return.

Yoite says that it’s strange; that he doesn’t see himself as living or dead, and that it doesn’t make sense. He say that it’s fine, and that he’s fine, despite Hana saying that it doesn’t matter if he’s dead or alive and that he’s allowed to decide. He says that he’ll take Miharu back to Banten, and then everything will be fine.

Unable to bear the weight on his shoulders any longer, Miharu snaps at Yoite, telling him not to say it like that, and he runs out of the house. “I don’t want Yoite to die. If Yoite disappears, what would I do? Who am I if I can’t rely on Yoite? I hate myself when I’m like this. I hate it. I hate it!” With those thoughts running through his head and the Shinrabanshou being the devil’s advocate and telling him that he and Yoite deserve to be happy, and that Yoite shouldn’t be erased, Miharu doesn’t hear the Kairoushuu ninja sneak up on him from behind. He’s captured by the Kairoushuu, with no one but himself and his own selfishness to blame it on. He wakes up in the house of the Kairoushuu leader, and asks him to let him go; that there’s no time left, and that he has to save Yoite. Of course, he doesn’t let him go.

Thanks to an opportunity from Meguro Gau and Shimizu Raikou, members of Kairoushuu that have decided they wish to help Yoite, Miharu manages to get outside the house, where he is once again reunited with Yoite. He dashes over and they two boys share a hug that last less than a second. That happy moment, those two boys together again, it doesn’t last; Yoite is barely conscious, and he’s more draped over Miharu than actually hugging him. His foot has been cut off, and Yoite is on the verge of death. Desperate, Miharu tries to get him away without much success, and in the nick of time Yukimi shows up and gets both of the boys out of immediate danger. He goes back to fight, telling Miharu to take Yoite and run, and Miharu does as he’s told. (he doesn’t stick around long enough to see Yukimi’s arm get cut off.)

Eventually Miharu can’t carry Yoite and further, and they stop at an overlook, with a view of the ocean and all of Banten in the background. He tells Yoite he doesn’t want him to disappear, and that they could stay together forever. That he can use the Shinrabanshou and save him. Yoite protests though, saying that he’s killing too many people, even if he is a ninja. Miharu says he’ll change everything so that Yoite can live together with him, even the past.

Yoite tells Miharu that he will die soon, but that he must live on. He thanks him for never asking him anything about his past, but still staying by his side. For looking at him even where there was no reason to, and for never letting go of his hand. “If you are so sad that you cannot go on, erase my existence.” He tells him. Yoite tells Miharu that he is happy, and he’s smiling at him again. “I want you to grant my wish so you can smile and laugh in the future.”

Minutes later, Yoite dies in Miharu’s arms.

He doesn’t get to grant Yoite’s wish. He doesn’t get to save himself from the heartache of losing the person he cares for most, and he doesn’t get to become the king of Nabari.

Miharu is taken back to Paradisim-a place that up until his return he had thought was just a very, very happy dream-and Yoite is still dead.
