Woke up dreaming

There was a design for a phoenix cloak in my head. Small pipettes sticking out of the hems around the outside, fed from a tank strapped to my back. I hold out my arms, squeeze the hand control that releases the gas. A sparker at the bottom ignites and my wings take flame with a woosh

Still, if I ever manage to make it to Burning Man, I know what I'll be working on :)

I'm starting to think the first version with the tank may well be the more controllable design. Kept to about 1/2" flames it should be manageable enough to walk around in.

The later possibly more fun, but I'd need a field to run around in. Or a desert :)

Hmm... poles in hands to extend wingspan keeps flames further from me and makes it bigger. *continues to tinker*

As long as none of the flames are in contact with your skin for any length of time -- or pressed against your skin, stepped on, etc. -- and as long as the rest of the garment does not melt or catch on fire (see above points) -- I think it's entirely doable. Torch fuel simply doesn't burn that hot

I like your idea of detachable wicks. That could make a significant improvement in the design. Also would make the tail easier. Separate wicks also means possibility of varying fuels for color changes. Thanks for the tips :)

Every year I talk about it, just been too broke to actually plan it. I should know in the next couple of months if I can do it next year.

you and i need to talk. well among other things. but i have a similar idea and i want to think of how to do it for wickerman next year. well okay. the ideas are exactly the same, but i half on idea that could build on yours. the hard part is figuring out how to do it in real life. until then dream on my friend.
